2023 Update

11th December

Since the Community Meeting in April, after which the Apollo Bay Community Voice was formed, a great deal has been achieved.

Incorporation, the election of a Committee of 11 at our AGM in August and now boasting some 300 members with another 100 on our mailing list.

ABCV Committee has met with the Mayor & CEO twice and has secured an agreement to meet 3 times per year into the future, along with relevant officers with an invitation extended to all Councillors.

With GORCAPA, we have met monthly through the year and will continue our community engagement meetings which have proved to be most beneficial in relationship building and reinforcing honest communication.

We have attended meetings & joined the Great Ocean Road Communities Network (GORCN), acknowledging the benefit to be gained from working with groups from Torquay all the way to Port Campbell sharing similar community and environmental issues. GORCN was formed in 2020 and now has a membership of 18 community groups from along the Road.

ABCV has a Facebook page and thanks to Mikhala McCann, we are pleased to announce the launch of our website abcvoice.com.au. It is early days and we will be adding more information very soon.

Much time over the last few months has been spent on the proposed sale of the old kindergarten site at 69 McLachlan Street. From submitting questions to Council, lobbying Councillors, talking to the press, sending letters to State Ministers to collecting 900 signatures on a petition to Council and meeting with stakeholders and community leaders. We achieved a 30 day pause in the sale of the site, after which we submitted a proposal, on behalf of the community, to Council with over 130 signatories, having met with representatives from GORH, the AB & District Health Foundation, AB Arts Inc, AB Chamber and conducted a Public Meeting. We presented the proposal to Council at a Briefing last week and Councillors will be deciding on the future of the site at their meeting on Wednesday 13th December. The outcome will be known by the time you read this newssheet.

ABCV meets regularly, reports back to the community regularly, engages with Council & GORCAPA regularly and we look forward to the coming year to continue to represent and advocate for our community.

We take this opportunity to thank you for your support and wish everyone a safe and Happy Xmas and New Year.
