Address Change to Remove Inconsistencies
May 27, 2019

Colac Otway Shire Council is starting the process of adjusting addresses on its rates database to ensure they match the state map base used by emergency services and utility companies.

Council’s Corporate Services General Manager Errol Lawrence said there had been discrepancies with residents’ addresses since the 1990s when the State Government adopted locality boundaries.

“There are 341 properties affected, and letters will go out soon to the owners of those properties explaining what is proposed.

“Council has compared the localities recorded in addresses on our rates data base, with the localities recorded on the state map base, and we plan to change any addresses that are not the same.

“Emergency services, energy companies and other utility providers use the state map base for their mapping systems, and Council’s changes will align the locality on these maps with the locality on rates notices.

“An example of the inconsistency Council aims to address is that the rates data base shows a property at Drapers Road listed as Colac East, while the state map base lists it as Drapers Road, Irrewarra.

“The locality referred to in the address on Council’s rates record will therefore be changed to Irrewarra.

“Council will advise Australia Post of proposed locality name changes, and ratepayers are advised to use their state map base locality name whenever providing their address, such as for Ambulance Victoria membership or if contacting other emergency services.
