Council to host Apollo Bay Skate Park Leagues Competition

Council is pleased to announce it will host the latest leg of the 2024 Victorian Skate Park Leagues (SPL) with a free event for local young people in Apollo Bay.
The event on Wednesday 24 January will include scoot, BMX and skate competitions throughout the day as well as an ‘All Aboard’ session in the morning for anyone keen to try skating for the first time or for beginners seeking to brush up on their skills.
Council’s Manager Connected Communities Tamzin McLennan said Council was excited for the SPL event to come to Colac Otway.
“The SPL events are great opportunities for the community to come together and celebrate the skills and talent of local skaters as well as giving competitors the chance to qualify for the Australian Skateboarding Leagues event held each March in Melbourne,” Ms McLennan said.
“Apollo Bay has a great surf and skate culture, we’re excited to bring this event to the coast for locals and visitors to enjoy as we wrap up the summer school holidays.
“YMCA will be at the event raffling prize packs to participants including decks, trucks, wheels, grip tape, scoot grips, scoot wheels, helmets, hardware and apparel. Medals will also be on offer for place getters.
“We encourage young people to come along to the All Aboard session, it’s a great opportunity to get active and try skating in a non-competitive, just-for-fun setting.
“Participation is free, however places are limited, so register your interest early on the YMCA website skatepark.ymca.org.au/all-aboard.”
Council is presenting the event through the Victorian government’s Engage! grants program and VicHealth funding.
“We’d like to thank the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) for allowing us to use the skate park for the SPL event,” Ms McLennan said.
All Aboard will take place from 9am to 10am. The competition will run from 11am to 4pm at the Apollo Bay Skate Park. Participants can register online atskateparkleagues.com/skatepark-leagues/registration or sign up on the day - parents or guardians will need to sign all relevant paperwork.
