Cheaper power bills, a (Victorian) wish granted…

24 January 2019

‘Eligible households can claim a rebate up to $2,225 on the cost of a solar PV system or a $1,000 rebate for the replacement of hot water systems with solar hot water.’

That’s the headline from the new Victorian State Government website which details what you need to know regarding the solar rebate scheme (www.solar.vic.gov.au).

If you are part of the farming community then you may be eligible for the Victorian State Government on-farm energy grant. These are five different areas of focus applicable to farmers which are:

  • Assessments
  • Grants
  • Demonstrations
  • Skills and Education
  • Research

For further details check out the Agriculture Victoria website (agriculture.vic.gov.au/agriculture/farm-management/agriculture-energy-investment-plan).

Who are we…

Southern Otways Sustainable (SOS), a local not for profit group, was established in 2018 with the aim…

‘To encourage, facilitate and implement a transition from fossil fuels to 100% renewable energy sources.’

We have organised an information ‘Community Drop-in’ afternoon to help answer these and any other questions you may have about installing solar on your residential home, holiday home, community building or business. This event will be held on Saturday 2nd of February, between 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Senior Citizens Centre, Whelan St, Apollo Bay. There will be a range of experts from Renew and other organisations on hand to answer your technical questions. There will also be a number of individuals from the Bay area who have first hand personal experience of solar installations in both Apollo Bay and the Southern Otways.

To find out more about SOS and the Community Drop-in please catch up with us at the Saturday Market on the foreshore this weekend (Sat 26 Jan). Alternatively, you can contact us by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
