Voice News

10th August 2023

We are pleased that 100 people attended ABCV’s very first Annual General Meeting at the Bowls Club last Sunday.

Nikki Williams chaired the meeting, delivering an inspiring President’s Report and announced her retirement from the committee. We are most grateful for all Nikki has done in such a short time, harnessing the community’s dissatisfaction with GORCAPA to create unity in the community to form a group that will represent and advocate for the community on all sorts of issues to governments and various authoritative bodies into the future.

An amazing group was elected to the committee, each bringing different skills, connections and experience.

It is the group’s intention, that Committee members will be allocated portfolios that will be flexible but will as far as possible, represent all sectors of the community, including Education & Youth; Health & Wellness; The Elderly; Emergency Services; The Environment; Sports & Recreation; The Arts & Events; Business & Tourism; Fishing & Farming.

Two pressing issues currently face the community. Namely, Child-care and affordable housing. It is important so please complete the short survey that Council has just released on future planning for childcare.

Also, there was talk of the Council selling off the old Kindergarten building at 69 McLachlan Street, this is of concern. It is an asset which could possibly provide a site to build 4 units for much needed housing or it could be of community use for a Makers Space for the Arts community for example. Please contact your Councilors to check the status of this building’s potential sale.

The newly elected committee will be working to create a website. In the meantime, please email us with your queries, issues, requests for membership forms, addition to our mailing list This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
