Council backs key sport and recreation projects

28th October 2026

Council has confirmed its support for sporting infrastructure upgrades at its monthly meeting in Apollo Bay.

Colac Otway sport and recreation projects will receive a major funding boost, with $790,000 announced this month through the Victorian Government Local Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSIF) towards three significant projects.

Councillors confirmed budget adjustments that will contribute more than $98,000 of Council funds to support project delivery.

A $770,000 Western Reserve Netball Pavilion Development has been fully funded by LSIF funding and contributions from the Colac Imperials Football Netball Club. The Central Reserve Hockey Field Lighting Upgrade will be supported by LSIF and Council funding while development of a Colac Otway Shire Tennis Strategy will be supported by the LSIF, Council funds and Tennis Victoria.

Mayor Jason Schram said Council’s success in attracting grants, having strong relationships with sporting bodies and clubs, and being able to provide financial contributions from Council would ensure all three projects are delivered.

“We put forward three very worthwhile projects and were pleased to be supported through the LSIF program for all three projects.  We’re looking forward to working closely with our community to realise the joint goals of our local sporting groups and Council,” Cr Schram said.

“This is a great outcome for the sporting codes and the community.”
