16th October 2026
More than $1.1 million will be invested in Colac Otway sport and recreation projects with Council securing $790,000 through the Victorian Government’s 2026-27 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSIF).
The funding will support the Western Reserve Netball Pavilion Development, a Central Reserve Hockey Field Lighting Upgrade and development of a Colac Otway Shire Tennis Strategy.
Mayor Jason Schram welcomed the funding, saying it would create more inclusive, accessible and sustainable sporting opportunities in the Shire.
“With this funding Council has been able to secure we will deliver improved sporting facilities, encouraging participation and guiding future investment in the Shire,” Cr Schram said.
“Sport and recreation play an important role in bringing Colac Otway communities together, supporting health and wellbeing in people of all ages and abilities.”
Western Reserve Netball Pavilion Development
A $500,000 grant from the LSIF combined with more than $220,000 in cash and in-kind support from the Colac Imperials Football and Netball Club will deliver the Western Reserve Netball Pavilion Development.
The project will replace the ageing netball rooms with a modern pavilion featuring female-friendly changerooms, accessible amenities, officials’ facilities and covered spectator areas.
"The successful partnership between Council and the Colac Imperials Football and Netball Club shows the Club's initiative and drive to deliver an important project that will benefit the wider community," Cr Schram said.
Central Reserve Hockey Field Lighting Upgrade
Council has secured $250,000 toward the Central Reserve Hockey Field Lighting Upgrade. Council will contribute $83,000 to the project.
The project will deliver new LED sporting lighting infrastructure that will provide compliant lighting levels suitable for football (soccer) training and junior matches while improving safety and flexibility of use.
“The upgraded lighting will benefit a range of user groups including the Colac Otway Rovers Amateur Football Club, local schools and community organisations that utilise the facility,” Cr Schram said.
Colac Otway Shire Tennis Strategy
A shire-wide Tennis Strategy will be developed with $40,000 from the LSIF, a $15,000 contribution from Council and $5,000 from Tennis Victoria.
The Strategy will provide a comprehensive assessment of tennis infrastructure throughout the Shire helping identify future priorities, investment opportunities and facility needs.
The development of the Strategy come at an opportune time with the Colac Lawn Tennis Club having recently completed a preliminary master plan for its site.
“Tennis is a widely enjoyed sport in the Shire and this strategy will ensure Colac Otway’s facilities remain fit for purpose and support participation in the future,” Cr Schram said.
