Colac Otway Shire

Unplugged youth jam and Earth Hour stargazing set to light up COPACC

2nd March 2026

Colac Otway Shire Council is inviting young people and families to take part in two special Earth Hour celebrations at Colac Otway Performing Arts and Cultural Centre (COPACC) on Saturday 28 March 2026.

Council will host an Unplugged Youth Jam Session for 12 to 25 year-olds from 2 pm to 4 pm, followed by a free family stargazing experience with the Barwon Downs Astronomy Club during the official Earth Hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

The Unplugged Youth Jam Session will offer young singers and musicians a relaxed and supportive space to connect, collaborate and build performance confidence. All skill levels are welcome, and participants are encouraged to bring their own instruments.

Youth Engagement Project Officer Chelsea Sharp said the jam session was a chance for young creatives to come together and celebrate Earth Hour in a unique way.

"Going unplugged is a fun and fitting way to mark Earth Hour, and it gives our young musicians a chance to express themselves, meet others and build their skills," Ms Sharp said.

"Whether you are just starting out or have been performing for years, this jam is all about giving it a go in a friendly and welcoming environment."

The Earth Hour Stargazing event outside COPACC later in the evening will offer a chance for families and young people to learn about the night sky, with telescopes and expertise provided by the Barwon Downs Astronomy Club.

Ms Sharp said the stargazing session would be a relaxed and engaging way to get involved in Earth Hour.

"Earth Hour encourages us all to pause, switch off and appreciate the world around us. Stargazing together as a community is a wonderful way to do that," she said. "We encourage families to come along, enjoy the night sky and take part in this free event."

Bookings are essential for both activities as places are limited. For more information visit Council’s website.
