U3A Apollo Bay Inc.
Sharing the fun of learning
The University of Third Age, Apollo Bay (Inc) was established in 2013 with the support of Otway Health, Colac Otway Shire, U3A Network Victoria and U3A Colac.
The "Third Age" is the age of active retirement.
U3A uses "University" in the word's original sense --a group of people coming together to share learning.
- No educational qualifications are required or given
- There are no exams or essays or any other form of assessment
U3A offers active retirees the opportunity to gain knowledge and engage in activities they didn't have time for when working full time. U3A Apollo Bay encourages life-long learning:
- To extend knowledge
- To promote new skills which help personal development
- To encourage new friendships and contacts, for health and well-being
Classes are held at various local sites. They vary among lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and practical activities. Some classes encourage homework or readings. Some are short, and some run for a term or more. Most are held in the daytime. Most close in school holidays. Only members can join.
Please consider taking part as a course presenter or a group member. If you have a skill to share or you are interested in leading a group, or have a suggestion for a course you would like to join in with, let us know and we will do our best to to set up a class.

Wine-making In Apollo Bay
Deb Bradfield talks to Damien Byrne about how to make Shiraz. Damien offers a course in wine-making through the Apollo Bay U3A: picking the grapes, fermenting, pressing, more fermenting, bottling, corking, ageing and finally drinking an excellent red. Damien's many years of experience provide us with the opportunity to make our own Shiraz. We will need to drink our quota within ten years, but we don't expect this to be a problem!
