Major milestone reached in Pascoe Street upgrade

Colac Otway Shire Council has marked a major milestone in the Pascoe Street upgrade project, with the completion and reopening of the new Moore Street and Pascoe Street roundabout and the reconstructed section of road in front of the adjoining shopping precinct.
The newly opened section of Pascoe Street delivers safer and more accessible connections for pedestrians, motorists and cyclists, while also improving the appearance and functionality of one of Apollo Bay's busiest commercial areas.
Council's General Manager Infrastructure and Environment Doug McNeill said the completion of the works in front of the Pascoe Street shops represented an important achievement for the project and the local community.
"The reopening of this section of Pascoe Street is a significant milestone that will be welcomed by traders, residents and visitors," Mr McNeill said.
The Pascoe Street upgrade project was designed to improve road conditions, reduce flooding and enhance pedestrian safety in Apollo Bay. Key features delivered through the first three stages of the project include the new roundabout at Moore Street, a mid-block pedestrian crossing and major drainage upgrades.
"These improvements are about more than just a new road surface. They provide safer pedestrian links between the shopping precinct, community facilities and foreshore, while also delivering drainage upgrades that will help reduce flooding during heavy rainfall events," Mr McNeill said.
The contractor is now preparing to commence Stage 4 works, which will focus on reconstructing Pascoe Street from the entrance to the off-street car park through to the Nelson Street roundabout.
Mr McNeill thanked local traders and the broader community for their patience throughout construction.
This final stage of the project is expected to be completed in early October, subject to weather conditions.
The milestone follows the recent completion of reconstruction works in Sarsfield Street in Separation Creek between the Great Ocean Road and Harrington Street.
"Together, the Pascoe Street and Sarsfield Street projects demonstrate Council's ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports the long-term needs of Apollo Bay and our coastal communities," Mr McNeill said.
"These projects are delivering safer roads, improved drainage and a stronger infrastructure network that will benefit the community for many years to come."
