Sports facilities on the agenda

Colac Otway Shire leaders visited State Parliament last week to push the case for regional sporting infrastructure investment.
Mayor Jason Schram, in his role as Chair, and CEO Andrew Tenni led a G21 delegation to meet with Minister for Sport Steve Dimopoulos and senior state government executives from Sport and Recreation Victoria.
The meeting was an opportunity to further advocate for the development of the Regional Indoor Sports and Events Centre (RISEC) in Geelong as a regional priority.
“RISEC is a priority project of G21. It would deliver greater access to elite sporting facilities and programs for people across our shire and the broader region and provide pathways closer to home for young people with elite sporting potential.
“It would provide a home for several national and state level sporting groups and with a capacity of 8,000 seats it would be ideal for large scale performances and events,” Cr Schram said.
“It will provide access to more events and entertainment within an hour’s drive for Colac Otway residents.”
While meeting with Minister Dimopoulos, Cr Schram and Mr Tenni took the opportunity to further push the case for a Colac Otway specific priority, the development of a home for soccer in Colac.
“We received positive feedback on both projects and we are taking as many of these opportunities as we can to meet with decision-makers and press the case for projects that will improve the lifestyles of people in our area,” Cr Schram said.
