Acting CEO appointed by Colac Otway Shire
January 25, 2018
Colac Otway Shire councillors have appointed Tony McGann to the position of Acting Chief Executive Officer while they continue to consider a permanent appointment to the position.
Mr McGann currently holds the position of General Manager of Infrastructure and Leisure Services at Council, and will begin in the role of acting CEO from 1 February.
Mayor Joe McCracken congratulated Mr McGann on his appointment.
“Tony will provide strong leadership for our organisation and for our wider community.
“As a long-term Colac resident and current General Manager, Tony will step into the position with an in-depth knowledge of current projects and Council objectives, ensuring it remains business as usual.
“The recruitment process of a permanent CEO will be re-considered by Councillors, with an announcement to be made at a later date.
“The appointment of a permanent CEO is one of the most important decisions our Council will make. We are committed to making the right decision for Council and our community,” Cr Mc Cracken said.
Mr McGann worked for Colac Otway Shire Council between 1998 and 2002, and after gaining leadership experience at other Councils as well as running his own private consultancy business, returned to Council in 2017.
With an engineering background, Mr McGann has extensive experience at a senior local level in government as well as the private sector.
“I strongly believe Tony’s strong track record of building and leading teams and delivering high quality services, both at Colac Otway and in previous roles he’s held, will be of great benefit to the Colac Otway Shire Council,” Cr McCracken said.
Robert Dobrzynski, who has been acting CEO since September last year, will conclude his tenure on 31 January.
“Robert always intended to embark on a holiday with his wife come February. We thank Robert for his work and commitment to Colac Otway Shire Council and wish him safe travels,” Cr McCracken said.
