The Apollo Bay Sailing Club aims to provide a wide range of opportunities to a diverse range of abilities and age groups. Sailing in Apollo Bay can mean a peaceful cruise in the bay on a sunny afternoon through to an adrenalin pumping race in 25 knot winds on the southern ocean off the Great Ocean Road.
The club actively encourages the entire community, regardless of age, sailing experience or boat ownership, to experience the joy of sailing in Bass Strait. The club holds weekly (category 6) sailing races from October to May which are open to beginners through to seasoned sailors. A typical Saturday race fleet comprises 5 keelboats, 6 Flying Fifteens, 2 Ynglings, 2 dinghys/cats (with increased numbers during Dec & Jan). There is also an active cruising membership.
'Try Sailing' and 'Sample Sailing' Programs
The annual Try Sailing program runs in February/March and encourages members of the community of all ages and levels of experience to 'Try Sailing' through use of club and members' boats and equipment.
The Biennial 'Sample Sailing' program is run with Yachting Victoria using their mobile sailing school of 6 Pacers and allows over 120 Apollo Bay P-12 College Students to give sailing a go with their class mates, including 2 teams racing regattas with support from the club and its members. Members of the wider community, especially parents of school children, are also encouraged to become involved in this event either as participants and/or volunteers.

We are looking for beginners and experienced sailors to join our friendly club. Sailing at Apollo Bay is very affordable.
We have an growing fleet ranging from solo dinghies through two-three person day sailers up to large keelboats.
There are lots of opportunities to get out on the bay for a sail whether you fancy yourself at the helm of one of the club Ynglings, crewing a flying fifteen or joining the teams sailing the larger yachts. Once you get hooked the scope is huge - in the last 12 months members have sailed to Tassie, NSW, Queensland and New Zealand and on to Tahiti!
