COSBluewater flooring materials delivery impacted by international shipping delays
January 12, 2017

Council has received advice that disruption to international shipping has delayed delivery of the flooring materials for the Bluewater Leisure Centre Stadium by approximately four weeks.

The materials, coming from the United Kingdom, are now anticipated to arrive by late February 2017.

Mayor Chris Potter said Council was disappointed that the delay would impact on the reopening of the Bluewater stadium.

“The prolonged closure of the stadium has been really challenging for our community and for Council, and we appreciate both the understanding and resilience of our user groups,” Cr Potter said.

“We have been working closely with our user groups and want to reassure our community that our contractors are undertaking preliminary works to be ready to install the floor as soon as the materials arrive.

“International shipping can sometimes take longer than anticipated and we have always been up front with the community that delays of this nature were possible.

“Unfortunately the state-of-the-art floor system selected for Bluewater isn’t made in Australia, which meant we had to source the product from overseas,” he said.

Installation is due to start as soon as materials arrive and is expected take about six weeks to complete. Once installed the quality of the floor, as seen in equivalent floor systems at the Australian Institute of Sport, will be of a quality suitable to play an NBA game.

Cr Potter said he looked forward to seeing the community back in the stadium.
