Calling for nominations for 2021 Australia Day Awards

Colac Otway Shire residents are being encouraged to nominate outstanding members of the community with the 2021 Australia Day Awards now open.
The Australia Day Awards bring the community together to recognise the work and commitment of individuals and groups who have made a significant contribution to the Shire.
Mayor Jason Schram said the Australia Day awards were an opportunity to publicly recognise the great work and contribution made by people from different sectors of the community.
“This year in particular, we have seen our community display strength, resilience and offer incredible gestures of kindness and generosity.
“Colac Otway is a close-knit community, and we have done a wonderful job supporting each other through an unprecedented year.
“The 2021 Australia Day Awards are a great opportunity to publicly acknowledge those people in our community who do amazing work, whether it be in their everyday, or who have stepped up and contributed during the pandemic crisis.
“It might be a person you work with, a friend or family member – someone who has a positive impact on the lives of others.
“I encourage the community to get involved and nominate someone they know who deserves to be celebrated for their commitment to their community and making Colac Otway Shire a great place to live,” Cr Schram said.
Awards are given in the following categories
Citizen of the Year - awarded to an individual who has made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
Young Citizen of the Year - awarded to an individual who has made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
Community Service - awarded to an individual or group who has performed outstanding community service during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
Sporting Service - awarded to an individual or a group that has made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local sporting community over a number of years.
Arts Service - awarded to an individual or a group that has made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local arts community over a number of years.
Colac Otway Shire Australia Day award nominations must be received by 4pm on Friday 2 October 2020.
