Central Reserve redevelopment to be opened on April 29

The Central Reserve’s new off-field facilities will be ready for action and officially opened on April 29.
Mayor Chris Potter said he was thrilled that the project would be delivered on budget and on time, despite a major setback due to thefts and vandalism in January.
Official presentations will take place at 12.30pm on game day, when Colac plays St Mary’s in their first home hit-out of the season.
Cr Potter said it would be an exciting weekend for the entire community and he encouraged people to come along, check out the new facilities and support the Tigers footballers and netballers.
“The Central Reserve off-field facilities redevelopment is the culmination of almost 15 years of planning, lobbying and collaboration between Council, the state and federal governments and Central Reserve users.
“First came the $750,000 upgrade of the playing surface, which brought our oval up to standard with some of the best in Victoria,” he said.
“Next we started lobbying for funding to bring the 1960s facilities up to modern standards and this redevelopment is yet another great addition to the Beechy education and recreation precinct, which also includes the skate park, the library, the secondary college, an upgraded stadium and pool complex, a new shared-use sports oval and library.
“As a community we’re really fortunate to have all these facilities in the one precinct where people can come together to be social and active and learn.”
Cr Potter paid tribute to Council’s builders Spence Construction for their partnership throughout the project, as well as the council staff who worked on the redevelopment, and Centrum Architects.
“Spences are a great local company and their professionalism throughout the project was incredible, especially when the theft and vandalism occurred.
“They’ve been able to claw back the timeline to ensure our community didn’t suffer any delays, and for that we’d like to say a big thank you.
“Our staff also deserve recognition for demonstrating best practice project management, the result of which is a lasting legacy for Central Reserve users and our wider community.”
The Federal Government provided $2.5 million for the Central Reserve redevelopment, with the State Government contributing $300,000, Council contributing $150,000 and the Colac and District Football Netball League and the Colac Tigers contributing $100,000.
