Colac Otway’s unemployed residents to benefit from Working for Victoria fund
June 4, 2019

Local Colac Otway Shire residents are being encouraged to apply for one of 22 new jobs under the Victorian Government’s Working for Victoria fund.

Under Working for Victoria, Council will provide jobs for 22 unemployed people – whether they have lost their jobs due to the impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19) or have been without work for a longer period of time.

Colac Otway Shire Chief Executive Peter Brown said the $500 million Victorian Government initiative was matching people that had lost their jobs with employers who need additional staff.

Mr Brown said the council was successful in applying for the fund after it was announced last month and had been encouraging locals to register for the Working for Victoria program.

Council will offer roles on six-month terms in the following jobs:

Community Recovery Support Officers

Business Recovery Support Officers

IT Officers

Rate Relief Liaison Officer

Community Maintenance Officers

Building Maintenance Officers

Infrastructure Officer

Cleaners

More than 6,700 Victorians have found positions through Working for Victoria since the program was launched in April, providing a quick return to work and access to training where required.

“Colac Otway Shire is really pleased to take part in Working for Victoria and is looking forward to welcoming our 22 new employees on board,” Mr Brown said.

“If you’re looking for a job, we want to hear from you. Please go to the Working for Victoria website and apply.”

The Government has struck new agreements with 15 councils across Victoria to support more than 1,000 people into jobs.
