Colac Otway Shire Grants Program (Round 2) Supports 37 Projects & Events
September 16, 2020
Facility upgrades, Christmas celebrations, shop facades and solar power systems are among the 37 projects and events sharing in almost $120,000 through round two of the 2020-21 Colac Otway Shire Grants Program.
Council’s Chief Executive Officer Peter Brown said the annual grants program provided important opportunities for community groups, committees, clubs, event organisers and business owners, and Council was pleased to receive so many applications for round two.
“Round one of the 2020-21 grants program was under-subscribed, most likely due to the COVID19 situation, leaving $108,357 unallocated,” Mr Brown said.
“Council resolved to award these unallocated funds through a second round, which includes a new Category 5 for Small Business Energy and Water Efficiency Upgrades.
“Since then, unspent funds of $9,897 have been returned from four cancelled events, bringing the total for allocation in the second round to $118,254.
“Council received fifty-one applications requesting a total of $204,770, and based on assessments of each application, 37 grants were endorsed in round two.
“Together with the $193,246 awarded to 56 applicants in round one, a total of more than $311,000 will be shared across 93 projects in 2020-21.
“This is a great outcome and will provide a much-needed boost and deliver significant improvements, updates and innovative events for our community.
“The Lavers Hill Hall water tanks will be creatively ‘pimped’, the Apollo Bay Show will go online, Colac’s Anam Cara House will enhance a communal courtyard and a defibrillator will be installed for the Cororooke Tennis Club, among the projects funded through round two of our grants program.
“The community will benefit greatly, along with local businesses and tradespeople in many instances,” he said.
“Thank you to everyone, predominantly volunteers, who applied for a grant and congratulations to the successful applicants.”
