Community encouraged to be part of 2019-20 budget process

Colac Otway Shire Mayor Joe McCracken is encouraging residents and community groups to think about what they would like to see Council consider funding next year and make a suggestion now.
Cr McCracken said Council had started the 2019-20 budget process and if people know of an area or project within Council's responsibility they believe should be considered for funding in the future they need to let us know.
"Council officers have created an online survey so residents and ratepayers can have their say on their priorities and where they think the Council should spend money,” he said.
"Council is also hosting information sessions in Colac and Apollo Bay so people can talk to officers, ask questions about the budget process and make suggestions on existing service levels, new projects, asset maintenance or upgrades for consideration over the coming years.
"Rate-capping limits what Council has to spend so the Council has to prioritise maintaining its many services that our community rely on but if you see an area that needs improving and we can see the benefits, if we can't include it next financial year we might be able to plan for it in the following year's budget,” Cr McCracken said.
"But we need to know now, either through our online survey or in person at a community information session.”
Community budget information sessions are in Apollo Bay near the bakery at 125 Great Ocean Road this Thursday, November 15 from 12noon to 2pm and at Colac Plaza, near the Coles Supermarket, next Thursday, November 22 from 12 noon to 2pm.
