Council to consider new Councillor Code of Conduct
June 10, 2016
Colac Otway Shire Council will consider a new Code of Conduct for Councillors on Wednesday, 15 June 2016.
Corporate Services General Manager, Mark Lyons said the new draft code has been prepared in response to a requirement from the State Government directing all councils to review their codes of conduct in accordance with new legislation by the start of July.
“The new draft code is very clear that higher standards of conduct will be required from all of our Councillors which we believe reflects the expectations of residents that their elected representatives will work together as leaders for this community.”
“It incorporates the best practice requirements adopted by a number of other councils and government agencies from around Australia and was developed in collaboration with Councillors.
“Council is committed to delivering a high standard of service to the community and the intention of the new draft Code of Conduct is to ensure our Councillors, as community leaders, work together in the best interests of our whole community.
“It will give our Councillors the opportunity to demonstrate their genuine commitment to providing innovative leadership, good governance, effective collaboration and contribution to good decision making on behalf of our ratepayers,” he said.
