E-waste banned from kerbside collections from July 1

Residents across Victoria will no longer be able to place E-waste in their kerbside collection bins from July 1 and Colac Otway Shire Council is urging the community to learn more about E-waste recycling.
Council has been encouraging people to recycle small E-waste items such as mobile phones and batteries for a number of years through its collection point at Council’s Colac Customer Service Centre.
However, the State Government ban on all electronic and electrical waste going to landfill, to be introduced on July 1, will force people to choose recycling options for all items with a cord or batteries rather than disposing of them in their kerbside bin.
Council’s transfer stations at Apollo Bay, Birregurra and Alvie will accept and store E-waste and are working with other G21 Councils, Barwon South West Waste Resource Recovery Group (BSWWRRG) and Pony Up for Good for the E-waste processing.
E-waste items for disposal at Transfer Stations include televisions, computers, IT accessories, phones, irons, toasters and other household electrical and electronic items.
In addition to Council’s e-waste collection station at Colac for mobile phones, household batteries, printer cartridges, CDs and DVDs, Council has also ordered a collection station for Apollo Bay, with more details and location to be announced soon.
