September 28, 2022
Colac Otway Shire Council has completed important upgrades to the Apollo Bay harbour thanks to $150,000 in funding from the Victorian Government.
Completed improvements include installation of CCTV cameras, a refurbished slipway cradle, new slipway winch shed and new oil waste disposal facility.
Colac Otway Shire Council’s Port Manager, Simon McBeth said the improvements had enhanced safety at the Port of Apollo Bay.
“The recent improvement works mean a safer harbour, which has positive flow-on effects for harbour users and the local community.
“The refurbished slipway cradle and new winch shed will ensure safe ongoing operation of the slipway for many years to come.
“Installation of CCTV cameras has also improved public safety and hopefully will act as a deterrent against vandalism and theft,” Mr McBeth said.
In addition to these important safety measures General Manager Infrastructure and Operations, Heath Chasemore highlighted the positive environmental benefits of works undertaken.
“In an important step to protect the marine environment, we’ve built an oil waste disposal facility which is free for harbour permit holders.
“These works enable Apollo Bay to grow further as a working harbour” Mr Chasemore said.
The project was funded through the Victorian Government, Local Ports Program.
