Nominations now open for Colac Otway’s 2026 Community Awards

The search is on for everyday heroes who make our region thrive, with nominations now open for the 2026 Colac Otway Shire Community Awards.
Following a community-led review, Council has updated the awards to better reflect the energy, character and values of Colac Otway.
The updated format honours tradition while introducing fresh categories – including a brand-new award celebrating creativity and active community life.
Mayor Cr Jason Schram said the updated Australia Day awards celebrated the people who shaped Colac Otway through creativity, leadership and community spirit.
“These awards are about recognising the people who roll up their sleeves and get things done for their community,” Cr Schram said.
“We’re proud to honour locals who serve quietly, lead boldly, and bring people together across Colac Otway. Now’s the time to nominate them.
“Whether it’s young leaders, tireless volunteers or people who bring us joy through sport and culture – we’re celebrating the people who make Colac Otway thrive,” he said.
2026 Award Categories:
- Citizen of the Year – Local Impact Award
Celebrating people who lead with heart and create lasting change in their community. - Young Citizen of the Year – Rising Star Award
Recognising young trailblazers shaping the future of Colac Otway. - Community Service Leader – Helping Hands Award
Honouring people who uplift others through dedication and grassroots leadership. - Creative and Active Contribution Award – Culture & Connection Award (New)
For individuals and groups who energise community life through creativity, sport, and cultural engagement.
Nomination Criteria Highlights:
- Nominees must live in or contribute meaningfully to Colac Otway Shire.
- Contributions may be in leadership, volunteering, youth development, arts, sport, or community building.
- Nominations can be submitted online or via printed forms available at Council service centres.
- Nominees should reflect the spirit of the award category – whether through innovation, dedication, creativity, or community impact.
Nominations are now open and close midday Wednesday 26 November 2025. Award recipients will be announced at the Shire’s 2026 Australia Day Event on 26 January at Cressy Aerodrome.
