Spring into family fun across Colac Otway these holidays

22nd September 2025

Make the most of the spring holidays in Colac Otway Shire – with plenty of fun for the whole family.

From playgrounds, nature walks and waterfalls to the Colac Kids Festival and Youth Fest workshops, these school holidays are all about enjoying what our region has to offer.

The Colac Kids Festival on Wednesday 1 October at Bluewater Leisure Centre promises a fun-packed day of family fun with the Melbourne Renegades, The Mik Maks, a DJ Dance Party, food trucks, pool entry, craft and activity stations.

Entry is by donation, with proceeds going to the Colac Salvos School Engagement program.

Meanwhile, young people aged 12 to 25 can build the skills they need to create, stage and promote events by attending Youth Fest workshops at COPACC.

The Youth Media and Marketing Workshop on Thursday 25 September will feature experts sharing tips in social media content creation, capturing stories and more. Register at www.copacc.com.au/marketing2025

Families can also drop into the local library at Colac or Apollo Bay for free fun, with books and digital resources to keep kids entertained and engaged.

Getting active is also easy in Colac Otway this spring. Go swimming in the heated indoor pool at Bluewater, or maybe even hire out a basketball court in the stadium.

Or take the kids to Birregurra Park or Colac’s Donaldson Street Reserve – both playgrounds have had exciting upgrades this year with new equipment, safer surfaces and more fun features for all ages to enjoy.

There’s also the Colac Botanic Gardens Playground with a huge play area near Lake Colac; the Elliminyt Recreation Reserve with its pirate ship-themed playground with climbing walls and a flying fox; and the adventure playground in Colac’s Memorial Square.

In Colac Otway we’re also spoiled for choice in the natural world. Fun and free places to visit include Lake Elizabeth at Forrest to spot the platypus; Maits Rest Rainforest Walk with a boardwalk through lush rainforest; and Red Rock Scenic Lookout at Alvie with panoramic views from a volcanic crater.

Colac Otway also features plenty of stunning waterfalls like Beauchamp, Triplet and Hopetoun Falls, and Stevenson’s Falls which has reopened with an extended carpark and upgraded walkways so people of all abilities can journey to the waterfall’s edge.
