Weekly organics kerbside collections throughout October
September 27, 2016
Colac Otway Shire Council will offer weekly organics kerbside collections throughout October to help the community prepare for the upcoming fire danger period.
This new initiative offers people the opportunity to easily dispose of extra garden waste that has accumulated over winter.
Chief Executive Officer Sue Wilkinson said the pilot program was being run across the shire for households receiving kerbside collections.
"Anywhere that has kerbside collection will receive additional organics waste collection throughout October," she said.
"This initiative allows those with green bins the opportunity to better prepare for the upcoming fire season. Simple activities like clearing and disposing of organic waste from around your property can have a significant impact in your preparedness for the upcoming summer.
"Every week during October regardless of what week your collection is, you can put your organics waste bin out whenever you would normally put your red lid garbage bin out for collection. It's that easy."
This additional service is provided to coincide with Fire Action Week 23 – 30 October.
