FIRE DANGER PERIOD DECLARED
The Fire Danger Period for this summer will commence in Colac Otway Shire at 01:00 on 4 December 2017.
The commencement of the Fire Danger Period depends on local conditions that lead to increased fire risk for your locality.
This means you cannot light a fire in the open air unless you have a permit or comply with certain requirements.
If you don't obtain a permit, you could be breaking the law and may be prosecuted. Penalties include a fine up to $19,028 and/or 12 months imprisonment. Apply for one here.
Find out more about what restrictions will soon come into force in your community.
Please note: Your local council or shire may have their own local laws. For further information contact your local council.
All burn-offs should be registered with ESTA on 1800 668 511.
Knowledge is the best tool when it comes to fighting fires; help spread this information by talking to your family, friends and neighbours.
Stay safe this summer.
