The 12 Steps to Transition!

6 March 2018

You might have heard there’s another group in town to add to Apollo Bay’s already impressive list!

Transition Apollo Bay has been established to allow our community to undertake community projects that aim to increase self-sufficiency to reduce the potential effects of peak oil, climate destruction, and economic instability.

Based on early learnings, these are the twelve steps or ingredients to becoming a successful Transition Town. This week we’re going to reveal the first four as they relate to Apollo Bay. Be sure to check in next week as we start at number five…

  1. Set up a steering group: A core team is essential for driving the project forward during the initial stages and planning. In Apollo Bay this is our Steering Committee which is being chaired by Libby Riches.
  1. Awareness raising: This is where we are at now. We’re encouraging everyone to become involved in some way and appreciate ideas and suggestions from every corner of our community. We’re aiming to communicate across generations and hope to get people talking about what is possible.
  1. Laying the foundations: Acknowledging the already great work being done by existing community groups. We have so many great groups already working on relevant projects which places Apollo Bay in a great position to move forward quickly with Transition.
  1. “The Great Unleashing”: We’re calling it a “Transition Forum” and it is being held on the 6 May from 10:30am to 3:30pm at the Apollo Bay Community Centre. If you’d like to come along, please RSVP by Monday 30th April to This email address is being protected from spambots.
