Stepping Up to Address the Big Challenges

13 December 2017

U3A Apollo Bay Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been successful in attracting a grant though the U3A Network Victoria. Our aim is to inspire the community to set a vision concerning where we want to see our town in the future in the context of climate change themes. This grant is to raise awareness, initiate engagement and to build on what is already underway in Apollo Bay. It is being led by the U3A but we hope to engage all generations in the process.

We are using the Transition Towns Model as the catalyst for a variety of actions, linked to a common vision, that grows and expands what is already being done.

Transition is a movement to create a better future by local communities taking grass roots action to address the big challenges of global warming. As a community, we can do a lot to care for the environment, our finite resources, and to reduce climate change.

We agree with the Transition Towns movement that:

- “if we wait for governments, it’ll be too little, too late

- if we act as individuals, it’ll be too little

- but if we act as communities, it might just be enough, just in time. “

The U3A Apollo Bay is currently planning speakers that will both highlight the issues we are facing and how some communities are working at a local level to reduce our impact on the environment. We will hold workshops that give you the opportunity to put forward your ideas and solutions. As a Transition Town we come together to create a better world by preserving the environment and energy resources, learning new skills, reviving the old skills, sparking entrepreneurship and much more.

We are inviting the Apollo Bay community to participant in in this exciting initiative in 2018. We would like to contact groups and individuals who are interested.
