The 12 Steps to Transition (Part 3)

20 March 2018

Transition Apollo Bay is dedicated to enhance existing initiatives to shape a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable community. Over the past two weeks, we have been examining the steps it takes for a community like ours to become a Transition Town, with this week being the final instalment.

To recap, the first four steps looked at establishing the steering committee, building awareness, building connections and facilitating discussion. We then moved on to the next four, which dealt with the formation of working groups, providing “open space” for natural evolution, the development of practical goals and the facilitation of skills transfer.  To finish the series, let’s now have a look at the last four steps:

9. Building bridges with local government: Support from the Colac Otway Shire will be a key element in our success moving forward.

10. Honouring past generations: Local knowledge is one of the greatest sources of inspiration and ideas within our community.

11.  Natural evolution – Transition works best when the outcome is not predetermined. The goal will be to allow the collective genius of our resourceful community to create highly inventive solutions.

12. Create an Energy Descent Action Plan: The pinnacle of the transition process and ideally will provide an inspirational vision of a powered-down community.
