Foreshore Amenity Block Update
5th October 2015
Community update regarding the state of the amenities blocks along our great foreshore and also thought it would be time to enlist some of your support.
For those of you who are not aware the Otway Coast Committee Manages 28.5 kilometres of foreshore from Separation Creek to Marengo.
The funding for all the facilities along this stretch of foreshore including the Amenities blocks comes mostly out of 2 revenue streams.
- Grants – If successful
- From the Wye River Caravan Park (which is only open 5 months of the year) and the Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve.
We are always going to get irresponsible people not caring for property and community assets. Sometimes a mess needs to be cleaned up just after a clean has taken place and this is something we have to live with.
To service all these blocks takes some cost, time and effort.
Let's look at the Skenes Creek to Marengo amenities blocks.
These are tendered out to cleaners, who undertake a clean of each of these blocks 3 times a day / 7 days a week in peak times.
However with the influx in visitors (which is great for our community) the amenity blocks are receiving quite a work out. No pun intended but in more ways than one.
We are constantly being called out to fix broken bowls and seats, blocked sewer lines/pumps, leaking and broken taps, overflow of sanitary dispenses, mess on the floors and walls etc.
So do we need another toilet block?
Well in our view yes and this should be put where we can direct the busses to park, thus keeping all the foreshore amenities for the purpose of servicing the foreshore parklands and beach goers.
So how do we do this?
We need your support and that of the Colac Otway Shire to fight for funding for the replacement and upgrade to the existing blocks and for the construction of a new amenities block.
This will ensure that the facilities we have are preserved and maintained to a higher level and a new amenities block will cater for the ever increasing daily visitors.
We would love to hear your views on this matter and would appreciate your feedback so that we can use this information as we discuss this matter with our Shire Council.
In the meantime enjoy our beautiful area and please feel free to contact us with your thoughts and feedback on what you think may assist in protecting and preserving the area we love.
