Summer Update
January 31, 2022
This is a quick update on the Fire Ready Apollo Bay project and the community response to a bushfire event in the area. For more information about the background to this project please check out the Fire Ready Apollo Bay website.
The key background points:
The Apollo Bay Surf Life Saving Club has made preparations to be a public information point on the foreshore if required.
The SLSC will stay in contact with the CFA in order to keep the community updated.
Additional venues in town can be open as needed.
The Seniors Citizens Hall on Whelan Street is working towards opening on days when the temperature is 35°C or over.
The CFA has created a new volunteer role to coordinate communications between the CFA and SLSC. We are happy to announce that Karen Keegan has accepted this role.
Please see a summary of the community response and tourist map below. We are distributing these to businesses over the summer but if you would like additional printed copies please be in touch.
Have you joined your local Fire Guard Group?
Groups like these are a fantastic way to meet your neighbours and to get to know your area. They have been proven to be a key part of community resilience and disaster recovery. Some background on other fire groups can be found here: www.safertogether.vic.gov.au/community-engagement.
