Update regarding Urgent Care at Otway Health
1st March 2017
The following information is given in response to concerns raised by the community.
Otway Health’s Urgent Care Unit is NOT closing.
It will continue to be staffed by registered nurses 24-hours-a-day, every day of the year.
Ambulance Victoria paramedics will have continuous access to the hospital facilities.
The resignation of a local General Practitioner (GP) has restricted the availability of an on-call Visiting Medical Officer (VMO). This means a doctor will not consistently be available after hours.
This change is temporary while GPs are being recruited to Apollo Bay.
The Urgent Care Unit at Otway Health will continue to operate as normal.
Like any small rural health service, the delivery of urgent care services by Otway Health can be affected by the availability of GPs.
The Apollo Bay General Practice is working to recruit and retain more GPs into the future.
Otway Health remains focussed on building a sustainable and viable health service.
