vicroadsLogoGreat Ocean Road Update

November 11, 2016

VicRoads would like to inform the Great Ocean Road community of construction works starting at the Paddy's Path landslide site between Wye River and Separation Creek next week.

A 50m long by 3m high concrete retaining wall will be installed at the roadside. While we are sympathetic to the natural landscape, our priority is to stabilise the slope by Christmas. The community will be consulted about the look of the rock basket facade, which will be attached to the concrete panels early 2017.

A site compound has been established in Separation Creek, near Sarsfield Street. However, responding to community feedback, we are looking to relocate the compound to a more discrete location by mid December.

Meanwhile, works to stabilise the embankment below the road 500m east of Separation Creek will continue next week. Boggaley Creek bridge is open to traffic in both directions.

Weather report

Recent rain has not caused any significant movement at the landslide sites.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting showers over the weekend and VicRoads' geotech experts will be closely monitoring the situation. If significant saturation and movement levels are detected, we will not hesitate to close the road for safety reasons.

We encourage drivers to stay informed by visiting the VicTraffic website or calling 13 11 70.

Lane closures and speed restrictions

Safety is our number one priority on all our worksites. We encourage road users to slow down and drive to the conditions through work zones. Traffic management will continue while clearing and construction works are in progress.
