VicRoads releases artist impression of retaining wall
Works to install the retaining wall at the roadside below Paddy's Path, between Wye River and Separation Creek, have commenced.
An artist impression of the design has been made available for the community, to give an idea of what the structure will look like. Please note the colour of the facade is yet to be determined.
Retaining walls are a common stabilisation method used along the Great Ocean Road.
This structure will measure approximately 50m long by 3m high.
It is VicRoads' priority to have the wall completed by Christmas, to allow two lanes to open for the busy summer period. The colour of wall will temporarily be that of the concrete used.
A rock basket facade will be attached to the panels in early 2017, after consultation with the community, to improve the aesthetics of the retaining wall.
It is VicRoads' preference to use a local rock variety in keeping with the natural landscape and historical overlays.
The retaining wall is the first stage of the stabilisation plan.
Works will continue after Christmas and into 2017 to install soil anchors, mesh netting and another retaining wall higher up the embankment.
Lane closures and speed restrictions
Safety is our number one priority on all our worksites. We encourage road users to slow down and drive to the conditions through work zones. Traffic management will continue while clearing and construction works are in progress.
