Apollo Bay Skenes Creek Coastal Discovery Trail
What do you think?
14 April 2016
The Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce has established a steering committee to lead delivery of an outstanding Coastal Trail from Wild Dog Creek through to Skenes Creek. This shared trail for pedestrians and cyclists will add to the existing trail from Marengo to Wild Dog Creek. Once implemented the trail will be a coastal experience which will deliver economic benefits to our town by increasing visitor numbers and extending their stay.
There will be an information display at the Apollo Bay Community Bank from this Thursday14th April.
Tim Cobb, from the Skenes Creek Association said "We set up a facebook group to get feedback and ideas a couple of weeks ago and already have over 400 members which is a huge number when you think that many (or most?) people don't use facebook."
With the help of the Community Bank we've been able to put together a display of the concept plans by Skenes Creek architect Chris Straw. You can drop in during bank hours, see the plans, make comments, suggest ideas, offer support or voice concerns.
The plan is to involve all stakeholders to make sure that the trail is built properly, addresses erosions risks, safeguards the hooded plovers and is a real asset to our town.
There is a lot of support for this trail – which has been talked about for many years. It will however, just remain an idea unless we show as a community that we believe it will bring economic and health benefits to our town and increase visitor stays.
So please take the time to complete a feedback form (pdf version), visit the bank or email
Skenes Creek Discovery Trail April 20, 2016 Anton Tibbits speaks to Tim Cobb, President of the Skenes Creek Residents' Association about the proposed extension of the current beach trail from Marengo to Wild Dog Creek. Extending the walking and cycling track to Skenes Creek would offer many benefits. An extended trail would not only connect Skenes Creek residents to Apollo Bay and Marengo but would be an incentive for tourists to stay a day or two and enjoy a spectacular beachfront walk. There is also a safety issue in keeping pedestrians and cyclists off the Great Ocean Road. The Steering Committee now needs expressions of support and questions or concerns about the proposal. Comments are welcome at the display in the Community Bank, 20 Pascoe Street, or online at apollobay.vic.au (Apollo Bay Skenes Creek Coastal Discovery Trail).
