Bay Petanque teams almost conquer Coonawarra

It was a case of "close but no cigar" for the two Apollo Bay teams who travelled to Coonawarra last weekend to compete in the 19th Annual Vigneron's Challenge. A record 65 triples teams from 4 different states competed over 2 days.

Gary Van Someren, Craig Buckingham and Rex Brown did remarkably well securing a place in the Principale (top 8) while Bob Knowles, Cheryl Biddle and Peter Biddle came home with the satisfaction of having beaten the team who ultimately went on to place second overall.

Apollo Bay is hosting its own competition on the weekend of Petanque on February 28 / March One and all are welcome to come and watch the action on the "Carpark/Piste" between the Surf Club and The Information Centre. The locals play regularly on Friday afternoons at 4pm - either at the YHA or on the foreshore and newcomers and visitors are always welcome.
