Disability Week; Art Show; Thank You Volunteers; Camps for Yrs 9, 8, 4 & 3; School Councillors & Other Volunteers Wanted for 2023
12th December 2022
It’s almost a wrap for 2022 at Apollo Bay P-12 College and what a year it was, with school almost back to normal after two COVID ravaged years.
We were thrilled to provide so many amazing experiences for our students this year. It was great to welcome back camps and excursions, revisiting some of our favourites and adding some exciting new adventures. We have an ARIA award winning musician in our ranks after Matty Orchard was crowned the Music Teacher of the Year and the school had its first year under the leadership of Brian Humphries, who took over the reins from Tiffany Holt.
We are also sad to farewell some of our favourites, with David Nelson, Marg Lugg, Richie Schrederis and Carmel Permezel, who have well over 100 years of teaching experience between them, earning a well-earned break by taking their long-service leave. Jenny Horner and Rina Hamdemir are also off on new journeys next year, but both have made a big impact at the school during their stints at Apollo Bay P-12 College.
We’d also like to give our departing VCE students a big pat on the back for their ATAR results, which were revealed this week. Morgan Forrester earned school Dux, while we had an impressive five students produce scores over 80. We wish them all the very best for the future and are excited to welcome a new crop of Year 12s in 2023.
If you are interested in volunteering in 2023, please contact the school, as helpers make an extremely important contribution to our school in a variety of ways. Our school council board was the smallest we have had in the last 10 years but possibly got through the biggest number of changes. One of the biggest achievements was the review of the parent payments and book lists. Through the work of school councillors, we have been able to reduce the voluntary contribution to families by over $300 per student for 2023. When nominations come out in 2023 for the new school council, please consider joining this very important group.
