Western Oval Tender Awarded

Colac Otway Shire has awarded the contract for Colac’s Western Reserve Oval Reconstruction Works to PW and VE Lang, with their tender providing best value for Council.

Council received $500,000 through the State Government’s Female Friendly Facilities Funding Program and $86,250 from AFL Victoria towards the project, with Council committing $276,250.

Work will include drainage, irrigation and oval reconstruction earthworks and follows on from the lighting upgrade which has been recently completed.

The oval reconstruction project will be completed by March 2020 in time for the start of the 2020 football season.

Council to provide audio recordings of meetings

Audio recordings of Colac Otway Shire Council meetings will be made available to the public before the end of the year in the interest of transparency and community engagement.

Council will start the process of amending policies and documents that would otherwise prevent the release of recordings and also address how the recordings could be used.

The recordings will be available online on Council’s website, and may also be circulated by other appropriate means from the December Council meeting onwards.

Valuer General valuations for rating

Colac Otway Shire Council has noted the 2019 municipal revaluation by the Valuer General and will use the valuations for rating purposes for the 2019-20 financial year.

However, Council will write to the Valuer General to express its concerns about the “wide range” of changes to valuations over the last 12 months.

The valuations were prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Valuer General’s 2019 Valuation Best Practice Guidelines and are an estimate of the market value of properties as at 1 January, 2019.
