Apollo Bay Customer Service expands to seven days a week next month
September 23, 2019
Colac Otway’s coastal residents and ratepayers will have access to Council’s customer service and VicRoads’ licensing services seven days a week from 14 October.
The relocation of Colac Otway Shire Council’s Apollo Bay Customer Service Centre from Nelson Street to the Great Ocean Road Visitor Information Centre will enable expansion of a service that had previously not always met community expectations.
Colac Otway Shire Council’s Development and Community Services General Manager Ian Seuren said Council had been working through potential issues raised by the community and he was pleased to confirm the relocation plans and schedule.
“Council is confident that customers will benefit greatly from the relocation after taking into consideration community feedback,” Mr Seuren said.
“The current customer service centre in Nelson Street is open from 9am to 1.30pm, five days a week, and it hasn’t been viable to open longer, more convenient hours, with between three and seven customers a day using the service.
“We have also had days when the Apollo Bay office has been forced to closed if staff were away and we were unable to replace them with other trained officers.
“The move will allow the community to access Council services and other services it currently provides, from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week, including public holidays with the exception of Christmas Day.
“Apollo Bay will be one of only a few places across the state to offer access to VicRoads licensing services including renewals and photos, seven days a week.
“Staff are being trained in providing Council customer assistance and tourism so customers can walk in and be served at any terminal at GORVIC.
“But we also have a local builder installing a dedicated Council desk for anyone who calls in to discuss a confidential issue,” he said.
“Council encourages the community to continue to provide feedback after the relocation if there are any other issues to address.”
The Nelson Street office will be closed from 10 October and Council’s Apollo Bay Customer Service Centre will reopen at GORVIC on 14 October.
The Apollo Bay and district community will be able to access customer service by phone on 52329400 while the relocation takes place. Colac Otway Shire Council apologises for any inconvenience during the temporary two-day office closure.
