Calling for nominations for Colac Otway Shire 2020 Australia Day Awards

Colac Otway Shire residents have a little over a week to nominate a member of their community for the 2020 Australia Day Awards with nominations closing Thursday 26 September.
The Colac Otway Australia Day Awards provide members of the community with the opportunity to recognise the work and commitment of individuals and groups who make a valuable contribution to the Shire.
Mayor Jason Schram said the Australia Day Awards are a chance to ensure local residents and groups are acknowledged across the region for their achievements.
“You only need to look at previous recipients of Australia Day Awards to see the wonderful people we’re fortunate to have in our region who are making a positive contribution.
“I encourage you to take a moment to nominate someone you know, that you hold in high esteem in our community who is an inspiration to other people.
“The Australia Day Awards give us a chance to acknowledge the efforts of others and say ‘thank you’,” Cr Schram said.
Awards are given in the following categories:
Citizen of the Year - awarded to an individual who has made a significant contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
Young Citizen of the Year - awarded to an individual who has made an important contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years. The Young Citizen of the year must be 25 years or younger on 26 January in the year of the award.
Community Service - awarded to an individual or group who has performed outstanding community service during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
Sporting Service - awarded to an individual or a group that has made a significant contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local sporting community over a number of years.
Arts Service - awarded to an individual or a group that has made a valuable contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local arts community over a number of years.
Beeac will host Colac Otway Shire’s Australia Day event and Citizenship Ceremony in 2020.
Colac Otway Shire Australia Day award nominations must be received by 4pm on Friday 26 September 2019.
