Apollo Bay Customer Service Relocation
May 24, 2019

A report on the relocation of the Apollo Bay Customer Service Centre from the current Nelson Street office to the Great Ocean Road Visitor Information centre is to be included in the Colac Otway Shire Council meeting agenda for June.

Council Chief Executive Peter Brown said Councillors had requested a report on the plan to relocate the customer centre prior to the proposed move at the end of June.

“Council has been looking at options to address a number of issues with the Nelson Street office since 2015, including providing better access through increased hours, a main street presence and safety for staff who are often the only people in the office.

“We only have between three and seven people visiting the Nelson Street office a day, with many customers preferring to use Council’s phone and expanding online services.

“The planned move responds to community concerns about the limited hours of 9am to 1.30pm offered at the Nelson Street office five days a week.

“Council will be able to provide customer service from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week, which will greatly increase access to the service.

“The staff will have a greater support network around them, including our tourism officers, and the intention was for customer service staff to be trained to assist visitors and GORVIC staff to be trained to respond to Council resident inquiries.”
