Calling for nominations for Colac Otway Shire 2020 Australia Day Awards

Colac Otway Shire residents are being encouraged to nominate outstanding members of the community with the 2020 Australia Day Awards now open.
The Australia Day Awards bring the community together to recognise the work and commitment of individuals and groups who have made a significant contribution to the Shire.
Mayor Jason Schram said the Australia Day awards were an opportunity to publicly recognise the great work and contribution made by people from different sectors of the community.
“We have great people doing great work every day in our municipality. People who volunteer their time, fundraise for worthy causes and stage fantastic community events,” Cr Schram said.
“I encourage the community to get involved and nominate someone they know who deserves to be celebrated for their commitment to others and making Colac Otway Shire a great place to live.
“We all know someone worthy of an Australia Day Award nomination; take the time to think of a person you work with, a friend or family member who has a positive impact on the lives of others and nominate them for an award,” Cr Schram said.
Awards are given in the following categories:
Citizen of the Year - awarded to an individual who has made a significant contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
Young Citizen of the Year - awarded to an individual who has made an important contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years. The Young Citizen of the year must be 25 years or younger on 26 January in the year of the award.
Community Service - awarded to an individual or group who has performed outstanding community service during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
Sporting Service - awarded to an individual or a group that has made a significant contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local sporting community over a number of years.
Arts Service - awarded to an individual or a group that has made a valuable contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local arts community over a number of years.
Beeac will host Colac Otway Shire’s Australia Day event and citizenship ceremony in 2020.
Colac Otway Shire Australia Day award nominations must be received by 4pm on Friday 26 September 2019.
