Access to boat ramp remains open while construction progresses
August 8, 2019

Anglers and boat owners using the boat ramp at Apollo Bay Harbour are being urged to observe no parking and construction site signs while the boat trailer park upgrade continues.

Additional stabilisation work required as part of a major upgrade of the Port of Apollo Bay boat trailer park as well as delays caused by bad weather, has set the project back by about six weeks, with the parking area expected to reopen in mid-October.

"The major project, funded primarily through the State Boating Safety and Facilities Program with a grant of $689,547, will be fantastic for boat users when it's finished as it will make the area much more user friendly for port users as well as reduce the impact on the environment,” Services and Operations Manager Frank Castles said.

“Unfortunately the carpark area needed more sub-base work than expected to ensure we deliver a long-lasting, quality parking area for locals and visitors.

"The boat trailer park construction started in June and we hoped, weather dependant to have it completed by the end of August but it will be mid-October before it reopens.

"We have been able to maintain access to the boat ramp throughout the project and boat users will be able to continue using the ramp with single-lane access.

"But we have had issues with boat users ignoring no parking signs and leaving their vehicles near the ramp and construction zone.

"We need people to launch their boats then park their vehicles and trailers away from the ramp area so others can have access. We request that these vehicles and trailers be parked at Mothers Beach car park (space permitting), and then alongside the golf course on Nelson and Trafalgar streets when this area is full.

"There are also people walking through the construction zone which has been an issue for contractors who have to stop work when members of the public are on site," Mr Castles said.

"Council appreciates everyone's assistance as we work to get the project completed as soon as possible and apologise for an inconvenience in the meantime."
