Community can help shape Council’s future direction via survey
December 16, 2016
The newly elected Colac Otway Shire Council today reinforced its commitment to listening to the community with the launch of a comprehensive community consultation process aimed at directly informing Council’s strategic priorities for the future.
The community engagement process will include a detailed survey, direct engagement with key stakeholders, drop in sessions and community conversations right across the municipality over the next two months
The survey, which was launched today, can be accessed from Council’s website, asks people to share their views on Council services priorities, and what they want their shire to look like in the future.
Mayor Chris Potter said that responses from the survey would form the foundations of a new four-year Council Plan.
Cr Potter said the survey would also feed into the Colac 2050 growth plan, the 2017-18 budget, a new rating strategy, and a Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan.
“We have a new Council that wants to set a new direction for the organisation, with the help of our community,” Cr Potter said.
“I encourage people to get online and complete the survey so we can understand people’s views on everything from economic development to planning to rates to environmental management.
“This is a great opportunity for people to share their thoughts on the business of Council and how it affects them now and into the future.”
Hard copies of the survey will also be available from Council’s offices and public libraries in Colac and Apollo Bay, and from the COPACC foyer.
Cr Potter said people could also share their views by attending any of Council’s upcoming Community Conversations.
The next Community Conversation is taking place in Apollo Bay on Australia Day. For a full list of Community Conversation dates and venues, visit the Shire's website.
