Council calls for community views on show day holiday
December 20, 2016
The community will have an opportunity to share its views on whether Colac Show Day should remain as a public holiday in lieu of Melbourne Cup Day in the Colac Otway Shire.
Colac Otway Shire Council decided at its December meeting to seek the community’s comments on the public holiday prior to setting the date for the next four years.
The State Government allows regional councils the flexibility to make public holiday arrangements in lieu of Melbourne Cup Day.
Mayor Chris Potter said the Friday of the Colac Show had been a public holiday in the shire for many years as a way of supporting one of the shire’s most significant community events.
“The Colac Show is a great event for the whole family, and celebrates our rich heritage as an agricultural area,” Cr Potter said.
People can provide feedback via an online survey www.surveymonkey.com/r/MelbCupHoliday or on Council’s website www.colacotway.vic.gov.au/Community-consultations/Colac-public-holiday.
Feedback closes midnight Friday, 13 January 2017.
