Council initiative attracts tourism industry leaders

More than 100 tourism industry leaders experienced some of the best attractions on offer in the Otways, coast and hinterland during a special tour organised by the Colac Otway Shire Council.
The 'Otways Free Day' was a program of events which showcased the region to the Victorian tourism industry. Event attendees from across Victoria spent the day networking with local tourism operators and experiencing many of the shire's local tourism offerings, with the end goal of attracting more visitors to the region.
Council's Tourism Development Officer Adrian Healey said the Otways Free Day was the evolution of an initiative launched by Council two years ago to raise the tourism profile of the shire.
Mr Healey said the day had been a huge success, with 139 industry representatives from 72 different organisations taking part in the wide-ranging activities on offer last Thursday.
"Some tourism highlights of our region that we featured on the day were the famous Otway Fly Treetop Adventures zip-line and treetop walk, a walk to the picturesque Triplet Falls and a tour of the Cape Otway Light station, which is the oldest surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia," he said.
"Our guests are lucky enough to be privy to world-class tourism on a regular basis, yet the experiences to be had right on our doorstep took their breath away.
"Exposing these influential industry representatives to what the Otways have to offer opens up a world of possibility."
