New Seasonal Compliance Officer for Apollo Bay and Wye River

A new Seasonal Compliance Officer will soon be on the beat in Apollo Bay and Wye River to help improve parking turnover during peak season.
The position has been created in response to community concern about a lack of available parking during the peak tourist season, and non-compliance with parking limits and rules.
Mayor Frank Buchanan said the position would be in place from 28 December until 31 March.
"Apollo Bay and surrounding coastal areas are a huge tourist drawcard which is great, but often visitors ignore the one hour parking limits and head off to the beach, leaving a shortage of parks for shoppers.
"We also get up to 20 large coaches coming thorough Apollo Bay every day, so we need to encourage them to stop and drop, not occupy valuable drop-off zones waiting for their guests," he said.
"This position will benefit the town economically by allowing more people to get a park, particularly those with limited mobility who can't park further away and walk to the shops.
"It will also help to improve safety by preventing cars parking in no standing zones and blocking lines of site around corners for drivers. We also want to prevent small buses parking in angle parking and blocking the bike lane creating a safety issue for riders.
"We want people to come to Apollo Bay and enjoy their experience, and I believe this position will help the main shopping precinct to function better and educate people to do the right thing for the benefit of everyone," he said.
The compliance officer position will be full-time and cover weekends and public holidays on a roster basis.
