COS
Council to engage with harbour users regarding management agreement
December 14, 2017

Colac Otway Shire Council has deferred its consideration of a management agreement for the Port of Apollo Bay so it can engage with harbour users.

The management agreement outlines Council’s role as port manager on behalf of the State Government, which owns the asset.

Mayor Joe McCracken said that representations received from harbour users made it clear that there were a number of issues associated with port management and maintenance that needed to be further explored.

“Council will carry out further consultation with the Port of Apollo Bay Consultative Committee so we can ensure any future management agreements for the port provide more certainty around the function of the facility,” Cr McCracken said.

“It’s clear that there needs to be a closer relationship between Council and port users if Council should continue in the role as port manager.

“The Port of Apollo Bay is an important part of Apollo Bay’s history, economy and tourism industry and Council looks forward to having more conversations with the Apollo Bay community about its future.”
