Major upgrade of the Port of Apollo Bay boat trailer park set to start this month
May 16, 2019

A major upgrade of the Port of Apollo Bay’s boat trailer parking area is about to start, with work planned in stages to allow boat owners access to the boat ramp.

Colac Otway Shire Council Infrastructure and Leisure Services General Manager Tony McGann said drainage work and the resealing of the park was due to start on Monday 27 May and would take up to 12 weeks, subject to weather conditions.

“The car and trailer park will be closed during the construction work and fenced off to the public but the work program will be staged to ensure at least one lane of the boat ramp remains open at all times,” Mr McGann said.

“We have planned work to minimise disruption to our recreational anglers and other boat users but trailers will need to be parked outside of the boat ramp precinct.

“Council worked with the Apollo Bay Harbour User Group on the design of the trailer parking area to determine where the parking spaces will go for the easiest and safest access for boat users.”

Council secured a grant of $689,547 through the State Boating Safety and Facilities Program towards the $827,547 upgrade of the parking area.

“This significant project will make the Port much more user friendly and reduce the impact on the environment,” Mr McGann said.

“Council is pleased to be able to undertake the parking upgrade but our priority remains advocating for the necessary funding to dredge the Port and complete other urgent repairs to maintain the working port.

“Colac Otway would like to thank all boat users in advance for their co-operation and patience, and encourage anyone who would like more information to contact Council’s Customer Service Centre on (03) 5232 4900.”
