Mayor encourages community to make submission on Colac 2050 Growth Plan
June 26, 2017

If Colac’s population is to grow to 20,000 people by 2050, where should new housing be located? And what additional infrastructure and services would be required to service a larger population?

These are among the several questions Colac Otway Shire Council needs the community’s help to answer via a submission form available on Council’s website.

Mayor Chris Potter encouraged people to fill in an electronic submission, which was part of the first phase of community engagement for the Colac 2050 Growth Plan.

“The first phase of community engagement for this project is where we ‘go wide’ and gather a range of views from the community on how they want Colac to grow,” he said.

“Getting feedback from the community is really important because 2050 is going to determine how and where we’re going to grow.

“I want people to visualise what Colac will look like with an extra 8000 people – where do we want the new houses, the open spaces and the services to cater for these people?”

Recruitment will start soon for a citizen’s jury of everyday citizens who will explore options for growth in detail.

The jury will sit during October and November and make recommendations to Council on how and where that growth can be supported and accommodated.

The submission form can be accessed here.
